The Winners of the Contest "Clean Region" 2018 are revealed! On January 18, the ceremony of awarding the winners of the Contest "Clean Region" -2018, announced within the frames of the project "Clean Up Georgia (phase III) took place at the premises of Tbilisi City Assembly in Queen Tamar Hall ". The event was organized by the Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth-Georgia, Parliamentary Committee for Environment Protection and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture and with support of Tbilisi City Assembly.
The Contest "Clean Region" was announced in May last year and the aim was to identify the “Cleanest region”, “Clean municipality”, “Clean city/borough”, “Clean village/community”, “Clean street”, “Beautiful yard” and “Beautiful balcony” throughout the country.
The award ceremony was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the kingdom of Sweden to Georgia and Armenia H.E. Ulrik Tideström, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Mr. Yuri Nozadze, Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Ms. Nino Tandilashvili, First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Mr. Zaza Khutsishvili, Deputy Chairman of the City Council Ms. Marika Darchia, representatives of implementing organizations of the project "Clean Up Georgia Phase III" and members of the selection commission created in the framework of the project.
For the first time the contest was held in three nominations in 2015 and two more nominations were added in 2017. The number of nominations in the contest announced last year increased to seven. Representatives of regions, towns, municipalities, villages and population groups participating in the contest were able to send photos and video materials about their residence. On the basis of submitted materials the winners were revealed in the nominations by a special commission established within the framework of the contest (Ministry of Environment and Agriculture, representatives of CSOs and journalists).
The winners of the contest "Clean Region" of 2018 are:
Nomination "Clean Region" – was named Kakheti Region - The award was handed over to the State Representative - Governor of Kakheti Region Mr. Irakli Kadagishvili by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to Georgia and Armenia H.E. Ulrik Tideström;
Nomination "Clean City"/borough - was named City Zugdidy - The award was handed over to the representative of Zugdidi Municipality by the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Mr. Yuri Nozadze (Chairman of the Selection Committee);
Nomination "Clean Municipality" - was named Zugdidi Municipality - The award was handed over to the representative of Zugdidi Municipality Mr. Giorgi Shengelia by the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Mr. Zaza Khutsishvili;
Nomination "Clean Village/community " – was named Village Chorvila (Sachkhere municipality). The award was handed over to the representative of the village by the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Ms. Nino Tandilashvili;
Nomination Beautiful Balcony - was named Patman Grigalava balcony (Kutaisi). The award was handed over by the Deputy Chairman of the City Council Ms. Marika Darchia (author of the nomination);
Nomination - "Clean Street" - has not been identified
Nomination "Beautiful Yard" – were named 3 first places:
Nomination (Private) "Beautiful Yard" - Akaki Gedenidze (Khoni Municipality). The award was handed over by the Head of the Environment Protection Commission of Tbilisi City Assembly Mr. Erekle Kukhianidze;
Nomination "Apartment Building Yard" – was named Zugdidi, Kuji street (Apartment building yard). The award was handed over by the Head of Waste and Chemical Management Service of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture Mr. Alverd Chankseliani;
Nomination "Yard of Legal Entity" – was named Wine Company GWS (Telavi). The award was handed over to the GWS representative Ms. Maka Natsvlishvili by the Head of Waste and Chemical Management Service of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture Mr. Alverd Chankseliani;
By decision of the commission, honorary diplomas were awarded:
Nomination "Clean Municipality" – were named Kharagauli and Sachkhere Municipalities. The award was handed over to the representative of the municipalities by the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Mr. Yuri Nozadze (Chairman of the Selection Committee);
Nomination "Clean Village" - Village Shorapani (Zestafoni Municipality) and Village Obcha (Baghdati Municipality). The award was handed over to the representative of the villages by the members of implementing consortium of the project „Clean Up Georgia (phase III)” Ms. Mariam Kimeridze (Georgian Society of Nature Explorers “Orchis) and Elene Loladze (“Ecological Awareness and Waste Management);
Nomination "Beautiful Yard" – were named Ramaz Kikvadze (Tskaltubo) and Nona Omarashvili (Mtskheta). The award was handed over by the Head of the Environment Protection Commission of Tbilisi City Assembly Mr. Erekle Kukhianidze;
Also, within the framework of the contest diplomas were awarded:
Kobuleti City Hall (Autonomous Republic of Adjara) – for " The Best Cleaning of the Beach". The award was handed over to the representative of the municipality by the Head of Waste and Chemical Management Service of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture Mr. Alverd Chankseliani;
Head of Kvemo Kartli Patrol Police Mr. Kakha Bukhradze - The award was handed over by the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Mr. Yuri Nozadze (Chairman of the Selection Committee);
Head of Rapid Response Unit of Kvemo Kartli Regional Division under the Environmental Supervision Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia – Mr. Davit Aslamazishvili. The award was handed over by the First Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Mr. Zaza Khutsishvili;
During the award ceremony of the winners of “Clean Region” competition, was also noted that for particular activity will be awarded with special diplomas Mr. David Robakidze, representative of Mayor's office of Ozurgeti Municipality in Ureki District and Mr. Gocha Mdinradze a member of Ozurgeti Sacrebulo for organizing a clean-up campaign on September 15.
The project is carried out with financial support of the Government of Sweden, with support of the Ministry of Environment and Agriculture of Georgia and in collaboration with Solid Waste Management Company, Parliamentary Committee for Environment Protection and Natural Resources and the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia
